Populus deltoides  This common riparian tree is resistant to flood damage, grows dark green, triangular leaves that turn yellow-gold in the fall. Grows best in moist, well-drained, fine sandy loams or silt loams. Not recommended for coarse sands and heavy clay soils. Will tolerate drier soil. Rabbits and deer will browse seedlings and young trees. Beavers will use saplings and poles for food and dam construction. Height: 80-100 feet. Zones: 3-9.
